Richard Barkham is one of the world’s leading real estate economists. Following careers in academia and private equity real estate (with the Grosvenor Group), he joined CBRE in 2014 as the global chief economist. In 2018, he was appointed global head of research to lead a team of over 600 researchers worldwide. Richard holds a PhD in Economics and is the author of two books and numerous academic publications. He is a senior fellow and lecturer in real estate at Harvard University and professor of the practice at the University of North Carolina. Mr. Barkham is a chartered surveyor, counsellor of real estate, and honorary professor of the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at The University of London. In April 2025, he transitioned to the role of senior economic advisor, and in June 2025, he stepped down from his position at CBRE. He now lectures and advises private clients.
